Macroeconomics and Sector analysis Studies
The African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) through the Skills Initiative for Africa (SIFA) commissioned a study to prioritize three economic sectors in Africa. These studies are baseline studies which provide labour market and sector analysis for 8 African countries. DNA Economics was tasked to come up with a methodology to prioritize various sub-sectors across Cameroon, Ethiopia, Kenya, South Africa, Ghana, Nigeria, Togo, and Tunisia.
This is done to assist the Skills Initiative for Africa (SIFA), who require information regarding the direction and extent of their investment and financing in prioritized sectors, which themselves have a specific focus on technical and vocational training students, and graduates, across various countries. The studies are based on forecasts and controlling for the impact of COVID-19- would lay the groundwork for targeted activities aimed at improving skills in the country. Moreover, the studies inform decision making on future skills development initiatives of the respective AU Member states.
A mixed method (quantitative and qualitative) analysis was undertaken to understand labour demand and labour supply in the 8 countries. These findings were then verified and discussed by professional representatives who assisted in the completion of widely validated reports in the skills planning space from the 8 countries.
