Under the theme “Partnering to link innovation and practice for accelerated Agenda 2063 implementation”, the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) in cooperation with the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and Stellenbosch University (SU) will launch the AUDA-NEPAD Centre of Excellence in STI on 22June 2021.

The AUDA-NEPAD CoE-STI, with a continental reach and mandate, aims to leverage the research and science capabilities from cooperating organisations’ knowledge and research ecosystems and connect this to policy and implementation efforts in catalysing implementation of Agenda 2063 development priorities. Over 40 home-grown innovations have already been identified. These are innovations, coming out of long-running programmes in the SU and CSIR project clusters, and represent widely tested and proven technologies or practices ready for commercialisation and upscaling across the continent. The innovations cover a wide spectrum of solutions to support countries in the Covid-19 era.

The online webinar is specifically organised to:

1. Launch the AUDA-NEPAD Centre of Excellence in STI;
2. Share an initial compendium of innovations; and
3. Provide a platform for integrated sharing of experiences among policy makers, practitioners and the science-research community.
