
Overview
The 4th Calestous Juma Executive Dialogue (CJED) will focus on strategic innovation and emerging technologies for smart agriculture to strengthen Africa’s food security. As such, this executive dialogue will provide capacity strengthening of senior policy and decision-makers through the exchange of knowledge and national experiences, networking, experiencing diversity and building mutually beneficial relationships with a focus on emerging technologies in the 21st century suitable for Africa’s sustainable agriculture and food security. In recognition of their seminar participation, participants will be awarded online certificates of achievement by AUDA-NEPAD, which can be downloaded for their records.

Objectives of the 4th CJED
- The executive dialogue aims to strengthen the knowledge and capacity of African executives, senior officials, decision and policymakers, researchers and academia on innovation and emerging technologies of smart agriculture and food security.
- CJED aims at strengthening the capacity of senior policy and decision-makers to provide technical advice to governments in assessing and harnessing emerging technologies in their respective institutions and organisations aimed towards food security.
- The Executive Dialogue will further enable them to provide evidence-based policy choices for African leaders in making informed decisions in harnessing innovation and emerging technologies, agriculture and food security.
Learning Structure
The learning structure of the 4th CJED will be highly interactive among experts and participants. It will entail short-course presentations and panel discussions on ZOOM.
Format of 4th Calestous Juma Executive Dialogue
The 4th Calestous Juma Executive Dialogue is organised as follows:
a. 1st Day:
During the first day of the executive dialogue, participants will be provided with an overview of the African Union political authorisation on science, innovation and emerging technologies in AU Agenda 2063. Participants will also be introduced to the work of the African Union High Level Panel on Innovation and Emerging Technologies (APET), including some of the technologies recommended for Africa’s socio-economic development with respect to smart agriculture and food security. Delegates will further discuss a module on how Africa can achieve food security post-COVID. This will focus on disruptive technologies of food security and safety, as well as the threats, technology opportunities post-COVID. The youth, innovation and post-COVID Africa skills will focus on youth’s entrepreneurship opportunities in agriculture with respect to the fourth industrial revolution and emerging technologies.
b. 2nd Day:
The second day of the executive dialogue will include discussions on the concept of ethics, socio-cultural issues and gender considerations in food security. There would be a panel discussion on challenges women in agriculture face and the role of technology in addressing them. Participants also will be introduced to three young African innovators in agriculture in another experience sharing session. They would deliberate on important topics pertaining to science, innovation, and emerging technologies such as policy conformity, implementation, monitoring and evaluation in key governance areas of the continent. Other important issues to be discussed include the work of AUDA-NEPAD in food security, including coordination and implementation strategies related to policy and programming.
Ultimately, participants will be equipped with leadership skills that can empower them to better deliver on their responsibilities as policy and decision-makers.
Certification
In recognition of their seminar participation, participants will be awarded online certificates of achievement by AUDA-NEPAD, which can be downloaded for their records. Delegates who participated in the 3rd CJED from the 29-30th of September 2020 can also request for certification, accordingly. Furthermore, a community of practice will be created for a critical mass of executives and senior government officials on emerging technologies and delegates would be invited to register.

Prof. Yaye Kène Gassama
Vice-Chair of the board of the National Academy of Science and Technology of Senegal
Chair of APET
Prof. Yaye Kène Gassama is a Professor in Plant Biotechnology at the University Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar and acts as Vice-Chair of the board of the National Academy of Science and Technology of Senegal and Chair of the basic, applied sciences and innovation section. She is a former minister of science and technology of Senegal, acting on behalf Senegal Government, as chair of AMCOST II (African Ministerial Council on Science and Technology). Under the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), Prof. Gassama as national coordinator has helped develop in Senegal, a regulatory framework on the use of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). She is a former member of the Advisory Board of FAWE/FEMSA Senegal for the education of girls in science and mathematics, where she often helps as mentor and role model to encourage girls to get involved in science. Under the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), Prof. Gassama as national coordinator has helped develop a regulatory framework on the use of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) in Senegal. She was also appointed as General Director of the National Agency of Applied Scientific Research. During this period (2005-2012) she helped develop a strategic vision through innovation approach, privileging the transformation of scientific knowledge in marketable products and services, in order to impulse strategic sectors like ITC, agriculture, food technology. One of her biggest fights remains mainstreaming young girls in science

Dr Rachel Chikwamba
Council for Scientific and Industrial Research
CSIR Group Executive, Chemicals, Agriculture, Food and Health, Member of APET
Dr Rachel Chikwamba is currently the director of the Vice President/Group Executive at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in South Africa, where she is responsible for Chemicals, Agriculture, Food and Health. In this role, she champions organisational alliances with local and global partners in order to advance knowledge and to address challenges of socio-economic and industrial development through science, technology and innovation.
Prior to her current appointment, Rachel was a previously a chief scientist in biosciences with a particular interest in improving access to effective treatments, using metabolic engineering of plants to develop a readily scalable platform for the production affordable therapeutics. She has led and participated in several global research consortia supported by the European Union Framework Programme and the Rockefeller Foundation among others. Rachel holds a PhD in Genetics from Iowa State University in the USA and a Master of Business Administration at the Gordon Institute of Business Science at the University of Pretoria in South Africa. She is a member of the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAF) and has held an Honorary Research Fellowship at St Georges Hospital Medical School, University of London. She sits on various boards focusing on agriculture, conservation and health, notably the Global Governing Board of ICRISAT, the Board of Directors of the Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Ltd, the South African Medical Research Council and is the chair of the Advisory Board of the Applied Center for Climate and Earth System Sciences (ACCESS), among others. She has served as an editorial board member for several international journals and a reviewer for local and international funding organisations. She has published book chapters and peer-reviewed scientific publications.

Dr Shadrach Moephuli
Agricultural Research Council, South Africa
Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Shadrack Moephuli is the President and CEO of the Agricultural Research Council (ARC) South Africa, a responsibility he assumed in 2006. He currently serves as a member of the National Advisory Council on Innovation (NACI) that reports to the Minister for Science and Technology. In addition, he currently serves as a member of the AU – EU High Level Policy Dialogue Working Group (HLPD – WG). He served a term as a member of the boards of the South African Weather Services and the South African Forestry Company Limited. He was also a member of the Genetic Resource Policy Committee of the Consultative Group of International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).
Before joining the ARC he held several positions of responsibility with the Agriculture Department of South Africa. While in the Department of Agriculture, Dr. Moephuli also served as the country’s representative on science and technology in agriculture at the international level in a number of organizations; specifically, the Convention for Biological Diversity (CBD), Cartagena Protocol for Biosafety (CPB), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), International Treaty for Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA) and Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). He obtained his doctoral degree in Biochemistry from the University of Connecticut, USA.

Dr Denis Kyetere
African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF), Kenya
Executive Director
Denis Kyetere is a geneticist and a plant breeder with a PhD from Ohio State University (OSU), Ohio, USA, and an MSc from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth College, United Kingdom – all in Genetics and Plant Breeding – and a BSc (Hons) in Botany and Zoology from Makerere University, Uganda. Denis previously served as the Director General of Uganda’s National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) for five years from 2006–2011.
During his successful scientific career, he, with the team he was working with, identified and mapped the maize streak virus gene 1 (MSV1), that confers tolerance in maize to maize streak virus disease, and also developed several maize varieties that are grown in Uganda and surrounding countries. His leadership and management experience spans across various sub-regional and regional organisations, networks, projects and committees including the Association for Strengthening Agricultural Research in Eastern and Central Africa (ASARECA) and the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA), where he served as chairperson of the two Boards. He was also the first chairperson of the Executive Advisory Board of AATF’s Water Efficient Maize for Africa (WEMA) Project. He has published widely in peer-reviewed scientific journals, mainly in the area of genetics and plant breeding.

Prof Roseanne Diab

Prof. Roseanne Diab is the Director of Gender in Science, Innovation, Technology and Engineering (Site), A UNESCO's Programme Unit Hosted by The World Academy Of Sciences (TWAS). She is the former Executive Officer of the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf) and Emeritus Professor in the School of Environmental Sciences, University of KwaZulu-Natal. She is a Member of ASSAf and is recognised for her research contributions in the field of atmospheric sciences, particularly air quality, climate change and tropospheric ozone variability. She is a Fellow of the University of KwaZulu-Natal, the South African Geographical Society, The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) and the African Academy of Sciences.
She has been a Fulbright senior research scholar and has been a member of a number of international bodies such as the International Ozone Commission (IOC) and the Commission on Atmospheric Chemistry and Global Pollution (CACGP). She has served on the Scientific Steering Group of the Stratospheric Processes and Research in Climate Committee, a committee of the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) and as Co-Chair of the Inter-Academy Council panel that reviewed the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Her interests also extend to gender and science, technology and innovation and she serves on the Gender Advisory Panel of TWAS.

Prof Leonard Kamwanja

Professor Leonard A. Kamwanja earned a PhD in Endocrinology-Reproductive Physiology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA. He is a former Chairman of the University of Malawi Council; Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University of Malawi; Fulbright Scholar and Visiting Professor at the Dairy and Poultry Science Department, University of Florida-Gainesville; Visiting Scientist in the Department of Biotechnology of the Institut fur Tierzucht Und Tierverhalten (FAL) Mariensee, Germany.
Currently, he is Vice-Chancellor of the Lake Malawi Anglican University.

Prof. Hassan O. Kaya
Director and Research Leader
DSI-NRF Centre in Indigenous Knowledge Systems
Professor Hassan Omari Kaya is Principal Researcher and Director of DSI (Department of Science and Innovation) - NRF (National Research Foundation) Centre in Indigenous Knowledge Systems (CIKS), University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), Durban, South Africa. Prior to his appointment as Director of CIKS, Professor Kaya was initiator and coordinator of the IKS Teaching and Research Programme, at the North-West University (South Africa); coordinated the NEPAD Agency IKS (Indigenous Knowledge Systems) Regional Node for Southern Africa, encompassing 12 countries in the region; was a member of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) Preparatory (Content) Committee for COP 17 UN Conference on Climate Change (2011); the Research Leader of the IKS Signature Project at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
He is currently coordinating the establishment of the UNESCO Category 2 African Institute in Indigenous Knowledge Systems (AIIKS), a consortium of more than 20 African higher education and autonomous research institutions, with its hub at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Professor Kaya has widely published, presented IKS papers and organized a substantial number of national and international conferences on IKS, within and outside South Africa, on IKS and sustainable development.

Prof Sunita Facknath
University of Mauritius, Mauritius
Professor in Sustainable Agriculture
Professor (Dr.) Sunita Facknath is a Professor in Sustainable Agriculture in the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Mauritius, and a twice-over doctorate (she holds two PhDs, one from UK and another from Mauritius). She was the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Mauritius from 2015 to 2018.
In addition to her teaching, she is very active as a researcher and consultant. Her research interests are mainly in the field of Sustainable Agriculture, Organic Farming, Climate Change, Integrated Pest and Vector Management, Sustainable Aquaculture, Sustainable Forestry, Soil Biology, Agrochemicals, and AgroBiodiversity. She has researched and developed a large number of environmentally-friendly, and sustainable technologies for crop health, using natural and/or non-chemical approaches that can be used in biofarming and organic production.

Dr Brylyne Chitsunge
Pan-African Parliament, South Africa
Pan-African Parliament's Food Security Ambassador
Dr Brylyne Chitsunge is a farmer who has always been a tireless advocate for food security through the empowerment of farmers in general and women, not only in South Africa but also throughout the continent. She has dedicated time to inspire and motivate African youth to engage in agriculture. For many years, she has been travelling the world to discuss issues such as sustainable agriculture, climate change, and supporting women farmers as a dynamic and inspiring activist. She is an internationally acclaimed expert and facilitator on agriculture and farming in the African context. Chitsunge is also passionate about health and Phytomedicines research specialising in the development of cannabinoid-based medicines.
Alongside the iconic President Nelson Mandela, she is the only other African to have received the Legion of Honour Bronze Medallion which is the second-highest accolade given by The Chapel of Four Chaplains (Philadelphia, USA) in recognition of her service to all people regardless of race or faith.

Dr Maria Madiope
University of Free State in Bloemfontein, South Africa
Campus Principal of the Distance and ELearning Campus
Marinkie Madiope is the Campus Principal of the Distance and ELearning Campus at the University of Free State in Bloemfontein, South Africa. She has formerly been the Director of the University Teaching and Learning; Head Curriculum transformation at the University of South Africa, Instructional designer at Absa and Tshwane University of Technology in South Africa. She graduated from the University of the North with a BA; BED; University of Johannesburg Masters in Computer-Based Instruction; PHD at the University of South Africa Her studies focussed on using Mobile technology for research proposal writing.
As part of community engagement, she is visible among the little-humans in the Africa Crèche Project to empowering women through the role she plays serving as the Chairperson of the Unisa Women’s forum, where she has grown the membership of UNISA women from 300 to 550. Marinkie is always there to care for women big and small. Dr Madiope is the winner of the Gender Activism: Advocacy and Promotion of Women's Rights and 2013, University of South Africa Woman of the Year awards 2013. She is also the recipient UNISA 2013 Best performer.

Prof. Emmanuel Bobobee

Associate Professor of Agricultural Machinery Engineering
Dr. Emmanuel Y.H Bobobee is an Associate Professor of Agricultural Machinery Engineering in the Agricultural & Biosystems Engineering Department of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana. From 2013 – 2015, he was a Specialist Researcher in Mechanisation at the Agricultural Research Council’s Institute for Agricultural Engineering in Pretoria, South Africa (ARC-IAE). Emmanuel holds PhD in Agricultural Machinery Engineering from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Uppsala, MSc degree in Agricultural Machinery Engineering from Cranfield University UK, and BSc (Hons) degree in Agricultural Engineering Kumasi, Ghana. Prof. Bobobee has vast experience in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, Agricultural Equipment Development and Mechanization.
He has invented the innovative mechanical cassava harvester (OAPI patent 17219: www.tekcassavaharvester.com) that is ideal for harvesting all tropical root and tuber crops, for which he was shortlisted by the Royal Academy of Engineering, UK for the 2016 Africa Prize in Engineering Innovation (APEI). For the same invention, Prof Bobobee has received the 1st Engineering Excellence Award, from the Ghana Institution of Engineers (GhIE) in December 2014.

Dr. B.M. Prasanna
CGIAR Research Program on Maize
Director of CIMMYT's Global Maize Program
B.M. Prasanna leads CIMMYT’s global maize program, which focuses primarily on maize improvement in sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and Asia. He provides technical oversight for an array of multi-institutional projects on the development and deployment of improved stress resilient maize germplasm in the tropics, as well as novel tools and technologies for enhancing genetic gains and breeding efficiency.
Prasanna also leads MAIZE, a CGIAR alliance of more than 300 research and development institutions worldwide that seeks to mobilize global resources in maize research and development to achieve a greater strategic impact on maize-based farming systems in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Under Prasanna’s leadership, CIMMYT established a state-of-the-art maize doubled haploid facility in Kiboko, Kenya. Prasanna and his team have been at the forefront in tackling the maize lethal necrosis epidemic in eastern Africa, as well as the Fall Armyworm challenge across Africa.

Darlington Ahiale Akogo

Darlington Akogo is a global leader in the field of AI. He is the Founder and Director of Artificial Intelligence at GUDRA and its subsidiaries: minoHealth, minoHealth AI Labs, karaAgro AI, Runmila AI Institute, and Gudra AI Studio.
Akogo is involved in AI and tech across several other platforms and industries. He’s the Lead of the Topic Group on AI4Radiology under the United Nations International Telecommunication Union and the World Health Organization’s Focus Group on Artificial Intelligence for Health (AI4H). At UN AI4H, Akogo leads the development of global regulations and standards for AI in radiology.

Dr Emma Naluyima
CEO, One Acre Limited
Joint Prize Winner – Africa Food Prize 2019
Emma Naluyima is a Ugandan veterinarian, urban farmer, businesswoman, elementary school educator and animal & crop farming instructor. Dr Emma previously worked for the National Animal Genetic Resources Centre and Data Bank and as an officer in Entebbe in charge of a Livestock Environmental Station. She has also worked for the President of the Republic of Uganda, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, on his personal dairy farm to improve the genetics of his herd through artificial insemination.
Her current portfolio includes (a) a plantation of matooke and vegetables, including tomatoes, spinach, cucumber, potatoes and greens. (b) A piggery of approximately 30 Camborough pigs. (c) Entebbe Animal Care Centre, a veterinary clinic. (d) An elementary school with approximately 300 students and 20 teachers. A snail farm where snail glue is sold to cosmetic manufacturers. (f) She also keeps about one dozen dairy cows, a flock of chicken and four above-ground plastic fish-ponds stocked with tilapia and catfish. In September 2019, Emma Naluyima was a joint winner of the 2019 Africa Food Prize (formerly the Yara Prize).

Dr Madichaba Phuti Chelopo-Mgobozi

Innovation Specialist: Biosciences
Dr Phuti Chelopo-Mgobozi is an Innovation Specialist: Bioscience at the Innovation Hub Management Company, where she is responsible for the implementation of the Bio-economy strategy by stimulating the local economy of Gauteng by accelerating innovative business in the health and agriculture sectors. Her role involves strengthening strategic partnerships; managing bio-entrepreneurship skills development programmes and innovation competitions as well as supporting BioPark life science incubator and AgriPark initiatives. Dr Chelopo-Mgobozi is passionate about technology innovations to improve healthcare and alleviation high-burden diseases across Africa. She has obtained her PhD in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from North-West University.
Dr Chelopo-Mgoboz is keen to be an impactful asset to the country and the continent. Her extramural activities include the following:

Dr Moses Lubinga
National Agricultural Marketing Council (NAMC); Agriculture Sciences; South Africa
Senior Agricultural Economist
Moses H. Lubinga (PhD) is a Senior Agricultural Economist under the Markets and Economic Research Centre (MERC) Division at the National Agricultural Marketing Council (NAMC) of South Africa. The NAMC is a state-owned entity with the mandate of advising the Minister for the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development (DALRRD) and directly affected groups on matters relating to the marketing of agricultural products, both locally and internationally.
His work entails undertaking agricultural trade related research as well as partaking into cross cutting projects. His other research areas of interest include development economics, climate change, policy analysis as well as Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E). Moses has participated and accomplished a number of research projects. He has published peer reviewed papers in accredited journals and has contributed to five book chapters. Prior to joining the NAMC, Moses served as a postdoctoral research fellow at South Africa’s Agricultural Research Council (ARC), and exhibits a broad understanding of the farming systems in Eastern and Southern Africa. He holds a PhD in Agricultural Economics (University of the Free State, South Africa) and a MSc. in Agricultural & Applied Economics (Makerere University, Uganda). He is also skilled in a number of economic analytical packages.

Dr Litha Musyimi-Ogana
Former Director: Women, Gender and Development Directorate, African Union Commission, Addis Ababa
Litha Musyimi-Ogana, a Kenyan mother of three, is currently the gender advisor of AUDA-NEPAD in South Africa. Previously, she worked as the regional director of the African Centre for Empowerment, Gender and Advocacy (Acega) based in Nairobi, Kenya and also as Director: Women, Gender and Development at African Union Commission, Addis Ababa

Prof. Juliana M. Mafwil MNI

Professor of Political Economy and Development Studies and Dean, Management and Social Sciences
Professor Juliana Mulmicit Mafwil was born in Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria. She is a founder and Trustee to many Non- Governmental Organizations. She relocated to Pathfinder Christian University in 2017 as Professor of Political Economy and Development Studies and Dean Management and Social Sciences in Jos. She has previously been a National Focal Point for the AUDA-NEPAD STEM Project and is the current National Focal Point(Nigeria) of the Calestous Juma Executive Dialogue. Her membership of professional Associations includes the Alumni Association of the National Institute (ANNI), Member Political Science Association (NPSA), member, Nigeria Institute of Development among others.
Juliana is also Farmer. She has to her credit published 2 books and 13 Journals, Conference Papers and Presentations

Dr Justina Dugbazah
AUDA NEPAD, South Africa

Dr. Justina Eyram Dugbazah is the Senior Programme Officer: Education and Social Development. At the .African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) She is also the acting Coordinator of the APET-CJED programme. She is an international education sector development specialist with over 20 years’ experience in all phases of project cycle formulation, appraisal, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. An international programme manager, academic and researcher with experience in teaching, research and supervision of student dissertations. Dr Dugbazah has over 20 years’ experience in project management in public service and development partners particularly CIDA, DFID, the World Bank, African Development Bank and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. She has supported governments at various levels to develop policies and strategies for community development and relevant skills training.
Dr Dugbazah is a notable proponent of learner-centered education, capacity building and strengthening, and skills development, leveraging competency based training approaches and has formulated specific initiatives for implementing competency-based training, capacity building for trainers of trainers. Demonstrated experience in public policy design and development practice at multi-levels focusing on design, implementation, coordination and institutional efficiency within national, regional and global parameters.

Prof Claudia Emmerson
McMaster University, Hamilton - Canada
Director of the Institute on Ethics & Policy for Innovation
Dr. Claudia Emerson is the Director of the Institute on Ethics & Policy for Innovation at McMaster University, Canada, Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy, and Associate Member in the Department of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences. Her work in applied ethics considers ethics issues and policy gaps in global health research, and she has been working with stakeholders in the field for over fifteen years examining issues that arise along the discovery-to-delivery pathway for health technologies and interventions. She is especially interested in ethics issues related to the introduction and adoption of novel technologies, the management of infectious disease, and data sharing and models of data governance. She is currently the Principal Investigator of a research program funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation that considers these issues.
Dr. Emerson serves in several advisory capacities related to public health and innovation, and most recently, the COVID-19 pandemic response. In the past year she has also supported the WHO in the development of guidance for testing of genetically modified mosquitoes, as well as in developing ethics guidance for controlled human infection studies to support the development of COVID-19 vaccines. Dr. Emerson holds an Hons. BSc (Biochemistry), and MA and PhD in Philosophy (Bioethics).

Dr Francis Nang'ayo

Francis Nang’ayo, an Applied Ecologist and leading expert on biosafety and regulatory affairs, holds a B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Biological Sciences (University of Nairobi, Kenya), an M.Sc. degree in Environmental Biology (University of Guelph, Canada) and a PhD degree in Applied Ecology (Imperial College, University of London). His career as a scientist began at the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organisation (KALRO). He worked for close to 20 years, rising through the ranks of Research Officer, Senior Research Officer, Principal Research Officer and Deputy Director of the Biotechnology Research Centre in Nairobi. He was later appointed the Senior Manager and Head of Regulatory Affairs at AATF in 2005, where he currently works.
He is responsible for securing regulatory approval authorisations to test and deploy agricultural technologies, including ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements of target countries for AATF projects. Francis is a member of many professional societies, including the Entomological Society of Kenya (ESK); the African Crop Science Society, the African Association of Insect Scientists (AAIS), the Public Research and Regulation Forum, the African Biotechnology Stakeholders Forum (ABSF) and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Expert Panel on Biotechnology and Biosafety, to name a few.

Ms Ruramiso Mashumba

Ruramiso Mashumba is a young woman farmer in Marondera. She holds a BA Degree in Agriculture Business Management from the University of West England (UWE) upon completing a degree in Agriculture Business Management, Ruramiso worked for one of United Kingdom's leading agriculture equipment companies. It was during that time Ruramiso realized how the use of equipment and technology could transform agriculture.
Ruramiso is the founder of Mnandi Africa, an organization that helps rural woman combat poverty and malnutrition by empowering and equipping women with skills and knowledge in agriculture, nutrition, markets and technology; assisting them access affordable and effective agro technology through an input-sharing program; and collectively purchase and sell goods and services. Mnandi's vision is to ultimately end hunger and poverty. She has been nominated for several agriculture awards and won the young farmer leader award which was presented by industry and government. In 2018 Ruramiso won the iconic African award for farming and agriculture. Ruramiso was selected for the Cornell Alliance for science fellowship in 2019. She also won the JCI top 10 young person awards in 2019. In 2020 Ruramiso was named one of the top 1000 entrepreneurs in Zimbabwe. She was also selected to be one of the top 54 women in Africa.

Gabriel Utsu Aniabi (a.k.a Gabriel Rockwell) is the Founder of GoBeyond Enterprises, a social innovation enterprise using entrepreneurial practices to bring social impact ideas to transform communities and/or strengthen projects in Africa.
He is also a Private Sector development consultant and an entrepreneur in the agriculture space. With over 12 years in the livelihoods, value chain and markets development sector, he has consulted for top International non-profits projects such as the World Bank, GIZ, Cordaid – SL, Cuso International, Govt. Agencies, AFC Agriculture & Finance, OSIWA, Amnesty International-Nigeria, IWF, TakingITGlobal, Girls Power Initiative, CBOs and an inspirator for Actionaid-Denmark. Gabriel is currently organizing UN Food Systems Summit Independent Dialogues – Nigeria targeted at youth inclusion in Agriculture and also in the works of building Nigeria’s single private largest beehive collective driven by tech. Dr Keabetswe T. Ncube

Dr Keabetswe T. Ncube, Founder and CEO of Kea Ncube Agri Services (PTY) LTD and Co-Founder of Feminine Farmers.
Dr Ncube studied PhD in Genetics at the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal. Her PhD focused on growth and carcass genetics, developing methods for improved management practices that lead to improved growth as well as improved meat yields in South African goat populations. The study also develops better and cost-effective management methods for smallholder farmers. Dr Ncube has worked as a Microbiologist and a Quality Control officer at Mageu No.1, a division of FoodCoorp as well as Microbiology and teaching assistant at the Tshwane University of Technology.
She joined the Agricultural Research Council, Biotechnology platform as a postgraduate researcher where she also worked as a coordinator for the community based breeding program and conducted training workshops for the farmers within the project also as part of the African Goat Improvement Network (AGIN) an initiative of FeedTheFuture and USAID. She is currently working for her company as the CEO and executive consultant, her company focuses on consultancy, farmer training workshops and meat sales. She is a former Next Einstein Forum Ambassador for South Africa (2017-2019), has been named a Top Outstanding Young Person in academic Excellence by Junior Chamber International South Africa (2017) and is a Black Woman In Science Fellow (2019). Ncube holds a BTech in Biotechnology with the Tshwane University of Technology and an MSc. in Life Sciences with the University of South Africa. She has three publications and has co-authored one Book chapter.

Dr Filippo Randazzo

Fil Randazzo is currently Founder and CEO Leverage Science. Leverage Science helps funders, investors and innovators identify big ideas and turn them to reality. He is a Senior Advisor at the Institute on Ethics & Policy for Innovation at McMaster University in Hamilton Ontario. He is also a Senior Advisor for the Islamic Development Bank’s $500M Transform Fund which focuses on funding and promoting innovation in health, agriculture, education, water and sanitation, clean energy, and industry.
Previously, Fil served as a Deputy Director at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF). During his 12.5-year tenure at BMGF, he actively participated in its rapid growth from a small startup to a 1500 employee institution. Fil co-launched and co-managed the Grand Challenges in Global Health Initiative, which in 2005 established the standard on how BMGF sources, funds and manages innovation. Fil directly managed a $600M investment portfolio which spanned areas such as health, agriculture, education, and policy. His portfolio included some of BMGF’s biggest success stories including Wolbachia based dengue prevention. From 1994-2004, Fil served a variety of scientific roles at the Chiron Corporation in Emeryville, CA. He earned a Ph.D. in Molecular, Cellular and Development Biology at Indiana University, Bloomington and B.S. in Microbiology and Anthropology from the University of Notre Dame.

Dr Samir Boudibi

Dr. Boudibi Samir holds a doctorate (PhD) in hydropedology in arid regions from the University of Mohamed Khider of Biskra, Algeria in 2021. He is actually a researcher at the Scientific and Technical Research Center on Arid Regions (CRSTRA), Biskra, Algeria. His research interest includes smart irrigation and drainage systems, groundwater quality, soil salinity, remote sensing, spatial analysis and kriging as well as the application of machine learning in water and soil-related systems. He is a member of different national and international research projects including 3 PRIMA projects and1 ERANET project.
He contributed to 6 research publications in national and international journals, 1 book, 1 book chapter and 4 scientific papers. He has an invention registered at the Algerian National Industrial Property Institute (INAPI) on smart irrigation systems, which he would be presenting at the dialogue.

Dr Zama Khumalo

I am a Future Leader Youth Development Programme – South Africa
She was one of the Mail & Guardian Top 200 Young South Africans in Science & Technology (2018) and Chairperson of the non-profit organisation “ I am a Future Leader Youth Development Programme” (FLDP) that is aimed at capacity building for students in rural areas in South Africa. The FLDP has been functioning for the last 6 years, registered under social development.
She is a medical scientist at the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), a division of the National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS) where she provides technical and scientific support to the Sequencing Core Facility. As a medical scientist, she was a nominee of the Angela Davies-Russel Award (PARSA, 2017) and the Senior WO Neitz Medal (PARSA, 2018

Dr Dumi Magadlela is an Executive and Leadership Coach, Coach Trainer and African Skills Development Practitioner, based in Midrand, Johannesburg. Dumi works for the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) in the Pan African Capacity Building programme (PACBP). He is currently a Trustee and Board Member for the International Coach Federation (ICF) Foundation Board. The ICF Foundation works on promoting the coaching profession for social impact globally. Dumi is a co-founder and founding Chairperson of the Ubuntu Coaching Foundation (UCF) at The Coaching Centre (TCC), where he is a senior faculty member.
Dumi is part-time faculty and facilitator at the University of Stellenbosch’s Business School (USB), where he delivers a Module on African Coaching Perspectives in the MPhil in Management Coaching.
